Brides
Tear's Falls
the
legend: A
young prince from the Black Sea coast, blond hair and blue
eyed one day met a high land princess from the Caucus mountains.
She was a dark haired, dark eyed beauty who moved with the
grace of the mountain mist. Of course they immediately fell
in love. However they had different gods who had decreed
that they must not be together. Below is the story and the
result of their belief that their love was the highest law
of all.
The
power of their desire, their love, and their passion had
swept them away, and against the rules of the gods, they
slipped away to be alone together. At the pinnacle of their
union they were discovered by the lesser gods that ruled
these ancient times before Greeks had come to the shores
of the Black Sea. Black skies and driven rain crashed in
on them and lightning split the sky.
And
then in anger they struck the beautiful young women with
pain so violent she could but gasp and writhe upon the ground.
Her young man, her heartmate, leapt to his feet and screamed
his defiance to the heavens. He at first demanded, and then
pleaded that the gods punish him for their illicit love
and not her. He reminded these lesser gods of her innocence
and kindness, the purity of her heart, and finally his pleas
were heard.
But
instead of pain they stuck him to stone forever.
The
lady awoke and saw the terrible price that her lover had
paid to save her. Her heart broke and the tears from her
soul flowed across the stone that had just moments before
been her sweet young man. So endless was her love, that
her tears flow still today, and though the maiden is gone
a thousand years, her tears still remind us that the magic
of love lives forever and transcends the understanding and
time of mere mortals.
