Course Levels
Pre-Course
Pre-Course
(1 month)
This course gives all first level students a similar starting point.
It is 30 hours. That allows her to work with each woman and bring
them to a place where they know the alphabet and are ready to begin
the level 1 course listed below.
Level One (3 months):
This level is for beginners and takes students from the introduction
to American English through to the low-ntermediate level of competence.
It is divided into two parts. The first one - Introductory Course
- builds pronunciation, spelling, vocabulary and reading. It is
based on elementary grammar as an essential component of second
language proficiency.
I use my own teaching material based on pictures, short dialogues,
common life situations and short stories which allow the students
step by step involvement in conversational English on the very simple
level. The course length is 1.5 months. Students attend classes
three times per week. One class covers 2 hours and 15 minutes of
instruction time.
The
second part of level 1 is from Interchange-1 by Jack C. Richards,
Jonathan Hull, and Susan Proctor. It is used to develop students skills
in grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing and listening.

The primary goal of the course is to teach communicative competence -
that is, the ability to communicate in English according to the situation,
purpose, and roles of the participants. The language used in Interchange
is American English. Video and audio cassette tapes are made available
to the students for study.
For False Beginners, students who have learned English incorrectly, Up
to the Top is used. This course revises the student's grammar skills and
builds vocabulary. Course length is the same.
Level Two (3 months):
This course biulds on and extends the foundations for accurate and fluent
communication established by Level One instruction. Interchange-2 (by
the same authors) takes students from low intermediate to the intermediate
level. This course covers the skills of listening, speaking, reading and
writing, with particlar emphasis on listening and speaking. Level Two
extends gramatical, lexical, and functional skills, enabling learners
to take part in guenuine communication through the use of a wide variety
of stimulating and
challenging activities. Throughout Interchange-2, students have the opportunity
to personalise the language they learn and make use of their own life
experience and world knowledge. Video and audio cassettes are availble
and the course length is the the same as Level One.
Level
Three ( 3 months):
This level is for students who already speak English well and want
to travel, do business or live in the United States. How to Survive
in the USA by Nancy Church and Anne Moss is suggested reading at this
level. This course helps students to prepare for everyday language
situations they may find themselves in when they are visiting the
United States, or when they are meeting Americans outside the U.S.
It contains many authentic examples of forms, documents, and written
material that students may have to use or fill out in real life. Audio
cassettes are available to the students. All conversations on the
audio tape are spoken by Americans from all parts of the U.S., from
many different social and cultural backgrounds with typical American
accents. Alternative Level Three courses can be taught, tailoring
the course to the student's needs. This level requires 100-130 academic
hours. Level Four ( 3
